St Thomas Aquinas Primary School in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe is a leading junior school with a Catholic background. It was established in 1956. The primary school has evolved to become one of the best primary schools in the city and nationwide. The school’s current enrollment stands at 250 pupils. At St. Thomas Aquinas Primary School, we have a low student to teacher ratio. This enables us to give the best attention to the individual pupils. Our average student to teacher ratio is 28 pupils to 1 teacher. This compares favourably when you look at other primary schools in Bulawayo and Zimbabwe where classes can have as many as 40 children.
At St Thomas Aquinas Primary School, our vision is to nurture the whole being. All due care is taken to inculcate values acceptable not only to the Zimbabwean society but to the world at large. Our children’s development is closely monitored, be it spiritual, physical, social, economical and last but not least academic. We take pride in the achievements we have made so far, considering that some of our students have gone on to become reputable doctors, sports persons, engineers, Priests, entrepreneurs and more.
Academic Curriculum for St Thomas Aquinas Primary School
The academic curriculum at St. Thomas Aquinas Primary School starts from ECD Class for the 5 year old pupils. It progresses to Grade 1 for those who are 6 years old. We have one class per stream from ECD to Grade seven. Grade seven is the final year at primary school. Our pupils then proceed to secondary schools within our vicinity. These are mainly Christian Brothers College, Dominican Convent, Girls College, Petra High, Midlands Christian College, Masiyephambili College and Falcon College. St Thomas Aquinas Primary School maintains a strong relationship with all the above mentioned secondary schools in Bulawayo. We also interact well with other primary schools in Bulawayo. These include Carmel, Petra, Whitestone, Masiyephambili and Dominican Convent.
Sports at St Thomas Aquinas Primary School
We have a variety of extra curricular activities for St. Thomas Aquinas Primary School pupils to choose from. They include swimming, athletics, soccer, netball, hockey, cricket, rounders and tennis. Due to the small student-to-teacher ratio at our school, it is a lot easier to detect a child’s preferred sport and to nurture it for those less confident students.
