Overview
Born in Bulawayo, Paul has lived all over Zimbabwe, both in towns and in the wild…which he far prefers. He holds degrees in archaeology and currently “works” around the country as a professional tour guide specialising in the culture and history of Zimbabwe. With personal experience across the country, the tours he creates combine history, nature and culture into a fascinating romp through any area. Specialising in prehistoric rock art, African colonial history and architecture, as well as the medieval empires of southern Africa, Paul enjoys guiding his guests with verve and passion.
Paul has been ranked by Vanity Fair (UK) as one of their Top 10 Guides in Africa, and was recently chosen by Conde Nast Traveller as one of the Top 25 Guides in Africa. He continues with his archaeological and historical research and has published several papers, reviews and books. He currently serves on the Board of The Mother Africa Trust, several local committees and research groups, as well as the committee of the Bulawayo Public Library. When possible, Paul enjoys hunting down obscure archaeological sites in Zimbabwe and visiting them in the company of his long-suffering friends, together with a GPS, camera, notebook and brimming cooler box.
In the last year Paul has set up his own travel and tourism company, Hubbard’s Historical Tours, and with it established a wide and loyal following of local and international guests who he entertains through his unique history dinners, and historical town tours and pub crawls.
Paul enjoys playing golf and hiking, but not, it must be said, competently.
