Overview
Gwanda State University is the brainchild of the government of Zimbabwe, created to fulfill the government policy to have a state university in each province. In 2006 the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development appointed a Foundation committee for the Establishment of a State University in Matabeleland South Province. The University is located at a disused mine in Filabusi. However the main campus would be developed on a 87hectare piece of land in Gwanda Town. The university will initial focus on Mining and Agriculture. However other programs shall follow.
